Library Programs – May 2026 Closed Monday, May 25, 2026 – Memorial Day

Storytime Sessions – Monday evenings & Thursday mornings Our storytimes are held on Monday evenings at 5:30 pm and Thursday mornings at 11:30 am. Our storytimes are set up as a Family Style session where grownups are encouraged to attend and participate with their child. Sessions include stories, songs, the calendar and activities for our preschoolers, as well as board books, puzzles, and puppets for all ages (sessions are Family Style). We have a lot of fun planned for this month! The Chartiers-Houston Community Library is proud to be a PA Forward Gold Star Library. For more information about PA Forward and the Five Literacies, speak with a staff member or visit the PA Forward website. *Thursday Storytimes are set for 11:30 am and take place prior to opening to the public. LEGO Bricks Club – 5/7 @ 5:30 pm & 5/9 @ 2:00 LEGO Bricks Club is for ages 6 and up (ages 6-9 will work best with grown-up assistance); teens are invited to try the challenge as well. Twice a month, we will set up a specific LEGO Bricks challenge for anyone ages 6 and up to try. Generally, there is no right or wrong way to build the challenge. We want to see your perspective! Are you up for this month’s challenge: May the Fourth Be With You – Star Wars theme builds Adults are invited to join in our LEGO Bricks challenges. Just ask staff for the challenge materials when you visit on one of the two dates

Cookbook Club – Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 5:30 pm Our next Cookbook Club gathering will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 5:30 pm. This month’s Cookbook Club members will be using recipes from The Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook. Stop by the library and select your recipe; a staff member will copy it for you; then make that recipe and bring it in for all to enjoy on the date of the meeting. For questions about the Cookbook Club, please call and speak with library staff at 724-745-4300. Youth are welcome to cook with and attend with a grownup. We encourage time together in the kitchen! Any participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. (Cookbook Club is a multi-generational program at Chartiers-Houston Community Library)

Teen Night – Monday, May 11, 2026, from 4-6 pm! For students ages 10-18 only Teen Night – Live Action Among Us Back by popular demand, Ms. Heather will be hosting a fun Live Action Among Us night for the teens. Use the library resources to solve puzzles and clues to try to determine who is acting as the Imposter. Teens are encouraged to dress up (not a requirement), bring a friend, and make plans to have some fun. All Teen Nights are FREE and open to any students ages 10-18. Chronicles of Yarnia – Monday 5/18/26 4-6 pm The next meet-up for Chronicles of Yarnia will be May 18th. We have materials to work with for any beginners to the craft. Check out supplies from our Fiber Arts Collection before buying your own. See staff for more details. New members are welcome to join us to begin learning a new fiber art. Easier projects and basic stitch instructions are available for beginners. Ms. Heather enjoys working with beginners, so do not shy away… everyone can learn to crochet! Other fiber crafters are welcome… cross-stitch, embroidery, etc. Bring projects, enjoy some social time, share your talents with youth in attendance. No registration necessary; come anytime between 4-6 pm!

Book Club – Thursday 5/14/26 at 5:30 pm Book Club will be held Thursday, May 14th at 5:30 pm. This month’s book is Cooking for Picasso by Camille Aubray. Bring some of your own discussion questions, your favorite quote, or a piece of the story that caught your attention to talk about. FUN FACT: Did you know that Picasso has one of the longest names ever: His full name is Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso. Reserve your copy of this month’s book by calling the library at 724-745-4300. Coffee, snacks, and great discussion will be provided! Speak with a staff member, if you have any questions or have suggestions for future books you’d like to see on our Book Club list. This month, we will be looking at a list of potential books for June-December!

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ADVENTURERS LEAGUE – TUESDAY, 5/5/26 & 5/19/26 @ 5:30 PMTHIS LEAGUE IS NOW FULL – CALL TO GET ADDED TO A WAITLIST FOR EXPANSION TEAMS This is a reminder for current members for our February campaign dates. *Teen Advanced League is by Invitation Only. These players have been notified and are eligible to play one Saturday a month. This league is now FULL.

Maker Monday – May 18, 2026, 4-6 pm Please note change in date due to closure on 5/25/26Our Maker Monday this month is celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month! We will have supplies and instructions on how to make your own Stress Balls. Make one for yourself and one for a friend. Did you know…“Stress balls are highly beneficial as a portable, inexpensive, and effective tool for immediate, short-term relief of mild stress, anxiety, and tension. They work by providing a physical outlet for nervous energy, engaging muscles to release tension, and offering a sensory distraction. Additionally, they improve hand strength, increase blood circulation, and help improve focus, especially during high-stress situations.”(healthline.com) Maker Monday materials will be out on this date while supplies last.

BASKETS NEEDED (ITEMS NEEDED) The Chartiers Township Parks and Recreation will be holding a Charity Bingo event to benefit the library on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The library will set up a basket raffle for this event. We need your help in making this a successful fundraiser for the library. Please consider making a basket, or donating items for baskets. Monetary donations to help with baskets can also be made by cash or check to the library (please note “Basket Raffle” on any monetary donation). AND… mark you calendar so you don’t miss your chance to hit it big at the Charity Bingo event! Teen Volunteer Opportunities – Slots are filling fast!TEENS (13-17) ONLY: We have a few teen volunteer time slots left for students who need hours for school programs and applications. Stop by soon to secure your time slot for the summer! Our regular teen volunteers work hard on preparing items for programs, setting up for events and holidays, and just lending support where needed. We can always use a few extra young hands and ideas here at the library. Teens who need hours for school or other organizations can work their time at the library. We have some wonderful young adults in the Chartiers-Houston Community! Would your teen like to join them here and have fun while helping out?
